We went to the state legislature sites and business development sites.

this is a very confusing mess that the states and FinCEN have asked us to deal with.

it would be great for all of them to get together and standardize the rules

we deal with three states and that adds work to an already tough task

We deal with three states as well--two require licensing and one does not. Tricky stuff!

I can answer that NYS has very onerous paper work for businesses that operate in the MSB field. We had a hard time finding the answer and went through the NYS banking department law division for guidance. I have docs, etc. If needed, PM me.

In Kansas you can go to get information about MBS licensing on the State Banking Commissioners website. The paper work for businesses in Kansas is a lot of work and not written for the average reader either.

If you are operating in a state that requires licensing, the forms can be a great source of information (who must register, does registration expire, etc.). When we understand the state licensing requirements, we can discuss the process intelligently with our customers-or at least be able to refer them to an appropriate resource. Our customers expect us to the be experts in all of these areas. We should mark the state sites as favorites on our computers for reference as needed.
