In Superman Returns, editor of the Daily Planet Perry White says, "Truth, justice and … all of that stuff." And I found out the omission was no accident. I went straight to the writers, Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris:
Mike: "When it comes to the American way, that's tricky." Dan: "I don't think 'the American way' means what it meant in 1945." Mike: "He's not just for Metropolis, and not just for America." Dan: "He's an alien, from Krypton; he has come to Earth to be kind of a savior for this world, not our country … And he has no papers." Mike: "What would happen with the immigration laws we have now?" Dan: "I'd like to see someone kick him out!" Director Bryan Singer admits that when they made the revision to the legendary slogan, they did have the international market in mind.
No more Superman with "The American Way"?
Is Superman now a commie?
Silly rabbit, tricks are for kids. It's not Superman who isn't American, it's the editor of the paper who says this.

2 star review in the Austin paper. Superman, the character, is bland and sexless. Lois Lane is a bland, humorless businesswoman with an out of wedlock child. The movie starts off well, but then becomes lackluster and the CGI is just too much. As a reference, this reviewer thought Spiderman 2 was much better and thought Ang Lee's Hulk was underrated (though he said he thought twice about mentioning that movie). The reviewer blames the director and the writers, not the actors. The movie is also too long. I think it is 152 minutes.
The music is the same John Williams music from the original.

No, I had something else to do instead. I'll go sometime in the next few weeks.

I went to "The Devil Wears Prada" yesterday", and all of the cashier's were having a discussion about how much better it was doing (ticket-wise) than Superman. Felt kinda bad; I would rather have seen Superman, but I lost the coin toss. Prada was PACKED...completely full. It was just average, by the way...

I saw it Friday night. I really liked it, I had a pretty open mind though. Superman is a very hard character to portray on the big screen without it seeming too cheesy.
I didn't mind the length of the film, but the last few scenes (especially the ones in the hospital) could have been cut back a little.
I don't think it was quite as good as the Spider-man films, but still pretty good.

It was good. I liked it. Brandon Routh did a good job as Superman, but Clark Kent was okay. I was more excited to see the previews for Spiderman 3 though. It say May 4th of next year I believe as the release date. It may be because I prefer Marvel over DC.

I totally agree. I bought my son a JLA sticker book at Six Flags this weekend and my husband and I were laughing about the heroes and villians and their abilities. Aside from the three you mentioned, the rest seem highly ridiculous.

I saw it yesterday. It was okay. Great special effects - the opening credits are amazing. My biggest complaint is that Superman was not portrayed as larger than life...I mean, he's SUPERMAN! I won't spoil the film, but the ending was weak.
Brandon Routh - Okay as Superman, but you can tell he was trying to be Christopher Reeve.
Kate Bosworth - Weak Lois...I would have been looking for Lana Lang!
Kevin Spacey - Gives Lex a nice new look, he was fine!
Anyway, there was a trailer for Spider-Man 3...That looks pretty awesome!!!
Unless you are dying to see Superman on the big screen, save your money for Blockbuster or Netflix.

i got that feeling as well, like they were trying to duplicate the original movie a bit. it was good because of the special effects but it used alot of hints to the original movies.
*******SPOILER- DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW*******
What's up with the kid? Did anyone see Mallrats? I thought Superman could only be with Wonder Woman? Ha ha.

I really enjoyed 'Superman Returns.' I thought the effects were great; and there was good contrast between the 'invincible' moments and then also showing his vulnerability. Overall, a very strong cast. Routh is fine as Superman, but I think Reeve was better as Clark Kent. Bosworth is not so much 'weak' as Lois Lane, but bland compared to her predecessor. Spacey gives Lex a fresh attitude - more sinister than Hackman. I definitely recommend seeing it.
