Would any of you share your hierachy of officer titles, if you have them? Right now the only officer titles we use are "officer" and "VP". We would like a more junior officer title for a potential new officer candidate.
Also, if anyone has a procedure they use to designate new officers, I would appreciate hearing about that too. Ours is just having a recommendation from a manager, but I would like to have something a bit more structured to determine this type of designation. (i.e., does an employee need to be employed a certain number of years before being considered for officer status, etc.) Thanks!

Ditto the above. The JOB designates whether it is an officer position, not the person. If they qualify for the job, they qualify for the officer title.

The titles in use at my bank are: ____ Officer Assistant Vice President Vice President Senior Vice President President We are a one branch bank, so we don't need more subdivision than that. As far as process, the only thing I will add is that while senior management may recommend a person for an officer position, all officers are elected by our Board of Directors, so there is a "formal" election process. I don't know what that process specifically is, since I'm not invited to the Board meetings. But I do know that once per year, one of the monthly meetings includes "officer elections", which includes both the approval of existing officers, as well as any new officer elections, if applicable.

How about First Vice Predident?
And Patrice, my first title was pro-Assistant Cashier. I don't remember if the pro was provisional or what.
This thread also seems to confirm the phrase "Title in lieu of money."

I've had friends tell me that when their bank was acquired, their severance package was based on their officer title. The higher level the officer title, the larger the severance package.

Yup, it's true on the severance packages. Sad that the value of the employee improves with termination!

Sometimes it feels like there are more VPs at the bank than there are tellers. This is actually true at my bank. We only have one location - no branches. We have six tellers. We also have three Senior VPs, Four VPs and an Assistant VP.

I was SVP Chief Compliance Officer at my last bank. I was considered part of senior management, and attended any such meetings.
Since the Compliance Officer is not an auditor - I don't think you have independence issues as a member of management. You need to be able to perform your duties without undue influence, but that doesn't equate to not being a part of management, IMHO.
