Is it appropriate for the bank to confiscate an ID it deems is fraudulent? If not, what are we to do? FWIW- right now I am saying photocopy ID and prepare a Report of Suspicious Activity. I am afraid if we confiscate the ID the situation might escalate.

Any suggestions?

We will not be confiscating the ID. But instead will do what we can to have the info contained on it or a copy of it and file a SAR.

I think you might be asking for trouble by confiscating the ID.

Yes I think it is too much to ask a teller or PB to confiscate an ID too.

Confiscate both ID and rest of wallet! Oh, no, uh, wait a minute, that's probably not a safe thing for bankers to do...

Hey don't forget if it is an OFAC deposit we are supposed to keep the person's money.

I hope I am not working when that has to happen!
