That kinda breakfast only works if you're going to be out on the range all day riding all the fat off.  Bagels and lox is Jewish in origin and they certainly aren't known for herding cattle. Given my druthers, I go with eggs, hash browns or potato pancakes (with applesauce & sour cream), canadian bacon and some fruit.  Now about that cane syrup....

potato pancackes......hmmmmmmm..........
I had to endure those when we had leftover mashed potatoes from the night before......
there isn't enough syrup to even make them taste decent, just sayin'......

I'm not crazy about smoked salmon to begin with, but it honestly would never have occured to me to use it as a breakfast item. Breakfast should be starchy and stick-to-your-ribs like cheese grits, scrambled eggs, fried pork products, or random bread-like items covered in cane syrup.  I'm with ya on everything except the cane syrup. Believe it or not, I prefer mole-asses!!

I didn't add apple sauce to the diet until the last 50 years or so, it was not in the food group back in the day.......
