Company is small mortgage lender. Manager who works on production floor does not know the meaning of confidentiality. He talks about EVERYTHING on a speaker phone (discipline, bonuses, etc. etc.). I work in another area, but cringe every time I hear him on the phone. Want to try and reign him in, and NO we do not have a written Employee Handbook, etc. or an effective HR. So, can anyone direct me to something FREE and in writing that will help? He's the type of guy who would have to see something in writing to prove he's doing something wrong.

bypass him and talk with his boss. if he doesn't report to you it is not your job to manage him.

Agree with Happy, get him a phone without speaker phone. If that won't fly have the bank buy him a hands-free earpiece that he can use.

I wish I was in the kind of environment where I could do that. However, I am not. As I said this is a small company and we are in a small satellite office; an office in which he is in charge. So there is no one to remove his speaker phone, etc. We have a very inexperienced person doing HR, so that's no help either. So....as I am in Compliance, I'm just trying to find something in writing that I can show him to point out his conversations are not appropriate & possibly leaving him & the company open to legal problems.

If he's in an office with a door, the next time you hear him on the phone, stick a big note in front of him that says "everyone can hear you", and then walk out and close the door behind you. Had a similar situation and this worked for me.

Print this and this and leave it on his desk.
Or forward the links to him in an email stating your concerns politely.
As compliance officer, you're just doing your job pointing out laws and regs that apply.
