If we finance a piece of property for a construction loan that is in a flood zone, when must be obtain flood insurance coverage? Can we get it on the proposed structure based on the appraisal, or can we wait until the foundation is poured to have something to insure?

See the Mandatory Purchase of Flood Insurance Guidelines booklet. page 25 (6) Buildings in the course of construction. The insurance must be effective at the time the construction phase is commenced. The only practicable way is to require it at the time the loan is made. The initial premium will be based on the elevation certificate. There are several other posts addressing this issue.
