Is it possible for a Personal Representative to open a JOINT estate account? Husband and wife died w/in a week of one another and the son was named PR for both. Thanks!

You should probably consult your bank's attorney, or at least wait for a reply from zaibatsu or other lawyerly posters, but here's my take on this.

The fact that one died before the other means that one estate was created before the other, so I don't think a joint estate is the way to go. Your state's law might have something to say about the specifics of your situation.

Thanks! I just discovered the same thing at my end. As it turned out, one of the accounts on record was joint and will go to the survivor anyway. He's applying for TINs for each estate. Appreciate the input!
