I will be in Indianapolis next week for BSA training. My wife is going with me. We are staying downtown. She is planning on going to the mall but curious of any other attractions she should/could do during the day. She doesn't want to venture too far away during the day by herself. Any suggestions would be great!.

Go to downtownindy.org. They have a list of 20 Free Things to Do in Downtown Indy that might be of interest. If not, you might find something else from there.

The Eiteljorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum, White River State Park and the Zoo are all close to downtown.

I have heard great things about the "Mass Ave" area downtown, for shopping, dining, etc. but have not yet been down there.

Although it is a few miles from downtown, if she likes shopping, she might enjoy the Broad Ripple area too.

The Children's Museum is downtown and is pretty great, but maybe not so much if you don't have a child with you!

Didn't W.C. Fields say he spent a week one night in Indy?

We were in Indy just two weeks ago for my husband's conference and we stayed downtown too. The kids (17, 13 & 10) and I went to the zoo, speedway, children's museum and Lucas Oil stadium - not colt fans, but close by.

St. Elmo's. The sauce on the shrimp cocktail will set you free. blush

Indy is one of the few cities where the sidewalks are busy when you stroll around the downtown at night...great town.

Thanks for the link, Ken. It shows they sell that sauce online. That will make a nice gift for my husband who has raved about the shrimp cocktail at St. Elmos many times since he had to travel out there on business years ago.

St. Elmo's was amazing. I had the shrimp cocktail!! Never ate anything that brought me to tears like that first bite did! But I kept going. And the steak was fabulous. Would go back there if we are ever in Indy again. City was busy even at 11:30 when we left the restaurant. Course there was a motorcycle shindig going on that kinda messed up traffic downtown - especially when you didn't have a clue where you were going. If it wasn't such a drive it would be fun to go back out and do it up right.

It's an even better city to visit if you like local craft beers! So many great places to eat/drink around downtown.
