Do any of you know how to go about verifying exemptions with the Department of the Treasury? I have the paperwork on our end, but I want to verify that they actually recieved it and the exemption was completed on the other end. Thanks for any help!

To verify that a BSA related form has been filed with the IRS the bank must send a letter to the IRS. The letter must state what form we are trying to verify, the bank’s name and TIN, the customer’s name and TIN, and any effective dates. The letter must be typed on bank letter head and sent to:

IRS Detroit Computing Center
Compliance Review Group
PO Box 32063
Detroit MI 48232-0063

A flat $20 fee is charged for up to 10 verifications. Copies are an additional $.15 per item. A check must be made payable to the Internal Revenue Service. The phone number for the related IRS department is (313) 234-2011 or 1-800-800-2877.
