I'll be teaching Flood & HMDA on the last day. Be sure to say "hi" when you see me.

We usually discuss the hotel topic each year about this time. It would probably be beneficial to do a search for "Norman" or "ABA School" and look for postings dated in the August through October time frame.

Hey there. I live in Norman and attended the school previously. I would recommend the Hampton Inn. It is accessible to I-35, and near good eats and the mall. From what I have heard, the Sooner Hotel leaves much to be desired!

My room at the Sooner Hotel was clean, roomy and the double bed was comfortable. Fridge, microwave, cable TV and a VCR were also in my room. I did hear that some of the rooms had twin beds (the men seemed to complain about that). I only had to walk across the lawn to meals and to class.

Those who stayed in the outlying hotels had to wait for shuttles or rent a car.

I attended ABA School 3 years ago and am currently debating about this year. I also stayed at the Sooner Hotel on campus, it was comfortable and made it easy to get to and from the classes and meals. However, the meals were truly campus food!

You must have gotten there early. I was late due to my plane and got the room from hell. Twin beds that had the shape of the last 9000 people who slept in them. Smelled like a bar after happy hour and I was afraid if I turned the bathroom heater on I would receive the worse shock of my life. I had a great view of a brick wall three fee in front of the window.

At least it had cable though.

I spent 1 night in the Sooner hotel 3 years ago, because they didn't have the cottages (where the instructors stay) ready. I had a room that smelled like smoke and had 2 single beds in the room. The beds both sagged horribly. The other problem (whether in the hotel or cottages), is that they put 20 watt bulbs (I'm not kidding) in all light fixtures.

If you stay off campus, you will be waiting for shuttles and it will be inconvenient. If you stay on campus, you are VERY conveniently located - right next to the school.

I was at the Sooner Hotel three years ago also. My room was "OK" but one thing I did notice is that the walls are VERY thin. I could hear the conversations the girl in the room next to me would have on the phone. And some of the things she said about fellow attendees weren't very nice!

Just something else to consider!

I went to compliance school in 93 -- my advise is to rent a car, you'll be quite popular.

So rent a big car, and sleep in it?

As it turns out I'll be there this session.

I'll be going too and look forward to meeting all you BOL'ers. I'd like to rent a car but being born in AK I've never driven a freeway or interstate and I'm not sure how bad the roads are. I went to Boston last year and decided it was better for everyone if I just stayed off the roads!

Russell you should have told me you were in Boston...there's actually a state law that limits the number of Alaskans that can drive in Boston at any one time...we may have broken a rule or two!

Andy....where is "there"? Atlanta or Oklahoma?

I went to the school over ten years ago. Actually the housing and food was not all that bad. But then again that was 10 years ago. Also, a word to the wise...we had several in our class that had been in compliance for a while and thought they could just breeze through, not study and just party at night. Then it came to test day and the ones that did nor pass were the ones that thought they knew it all and partied instead ofstudying. How would you like to go back to your CEO or the Board and tell them that you didn't pass...

Just to put those that are attending this year at ease..... there is no test anymore, at least at the school. The real test is when you get back to your office.

It was 10 years ago for me as well. We studied the finite details of the regs until 9 each night at a minimum readying "board" presentations. And you know what, doing it with others interested in it made it enjoyable and a great learning experience.

For those who dislike the rooms and food, well I lived in a tent long enough in the service that my expectations are not so high.

A Grant Wood painting.
I attended Indianapolis last spring. Food and lodging were nice. How many people take it to the CRCM level? I am thinking about it and may schedule the exam after the "adanvced" (?) class next year. Does this make sense?

You know that you should really not complain about the hotels. When I was in Norman for consumer lending school about 10 years ago, we stayed in the dorms, and aside from the one room that was in the middle of the halls and served as a party room,it was pretty bad, but not as bad as the rooms we had to stay in at Marketing School for 2 years in a row in Boulder - think shoebox room, shared showers on each hall that did not drain until you were out for a while, so by the time your shower was done, the water was up to your ankles!

That picture just needs a little porcelein kitty litter box that zonko kitty can pray next to. And your freaky picture can't freak me out - you change them so often, I don't even remember all of 'em; just the first one I ever saw which was just you.
