Just what we need in the middle of a depression. All of the gas companies having record profits and we poor drivers who need to fill up our tanks to get to work are paying the price. Something needs to be done here.

I was just down in LA. Gas was $1.85. how does one just happen to be "down" in New Orleans from the Hill country, that is like a 7 hour drive! And it was Mardi Gras too!

While oil supplies are at a 16-year high, gasoline inventories are at a 5-year low. So when demand rises with the summer driving season expect prices at the pump to rise 20-30 cents per gallon.
If you're looking for a villain in this scenario, the refiners fit the bill; they have kept capacity idle in anticipation of the coming demand and hope to profit from the widening "crack spread" - or the difference in price between crude oil and refined products.
(please no comments on the crack spread!)

Well, when everyone has to quit driving again their profits may not be what they are anticipating especially since the economy has worsened since gas was $4/gal.

Now oil has gone back down a little. Wonder what the price of gas will do.

Whem do they switch to the "Summer formula", doesn't gas usually go down then?
I noticed when oil spiked last weekend at $54 prices jumpes at the pump. Here it went from 1.92 to 2.15. Well when it was falling earlier this week, the price of gas didn't follow.
