The Teleprompter of the United States repeated itself today: President Obama’s speech at the National Academy of Sciences Monday morning hit a brief snag when Obama got ahead of his script.
Laying his plan for a President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, Obama began to name the members of PCAST listed in his prepared remarks – before realizing he’d already introduced them, earlier in his speech.
“In addition to John – sorry, the – I just noticed I jumped the gun here,” Obama said, pausing for several seconds as he looked at the prompter. “Go ahead. Move it up. I had already introduced all you guys.”
The audience, which gave the president a warm reception, responded with a quiet laugh. http://www.politico.com/politico44/perm/...017e7b70c2.htmlAnyone remember stories about how fmr. President Clinton got the wrong speech loaded into the teleprompter at the state of the union address one year and was able to ad lib for 15 minutes or so while they fixed it? Wonder what the current President would do...

I thought Clinton was 8 minutes, but regardless, he was definitely better prepared.

What would the media have done to Bush if he'd been unable to deviate from teleprompter in a speech without asking the scroller to "move it up" on the same day his White House ordered a low-altitude flyover of Manhattan without giving public notice?
My guess is that they'd have had legal experts on all three broadcast network newscasts asking the burning question: is "too stupid" an acceptable reason for Congress to begin impeachment?

you are so right there Jman, but hey it has only been 100 days, we have to give him time to learn how to work with the teleprompter.

Or how about Jesse Jackson's comments about Barack Obama when he thought the microphone was turned off?

I think President Reagan made a comment about launching missiles at Russia. I think it was something like "We launch in two minutes." If that happened today he would have been CRUCIFIED in the media, blogs, forums etc.

Reagan and the rest of us were fortunate enough to not have the internet, AKA the misinformation superhighway at our beck and call 24/7. More choices means more competition but it reaches the point of diminishing standards, which is clearly where we are now.

Aldous Huxley said it in "Brave New World". "In the future not that man will not be able to distinguish between right and wrong, but that he will not be able to distinguish between truth and fiction, due to the velocity and sheer amount of information."
