Busted For Slapping Stranger's Crying Child

::Snip::
Georgia man, 61, threatened to "shut that baby up" at Walmart
SEPTEMBER 2--Meet Roger Stephens. The Georgia man, 61, was shopping Monday morning at a Walmart in Stone Mountain when he crossed paths with Sonya Matthews and her two-year-old daughter Paige. The child was crying, which apparently greatly perturbed Matthews. "If you don't shut that baby up I will shut her up for you," Stephens warned Matthews, according to a Gwinnett County Police Department report. Moments later, Stephens acted on his threat, slapping Paige "across the face approximately four or five times." Though the child "started crying and screaming" after being struck, Stephens told Matthews, "See, I told you I would shut her up."

If that had been my kid (though mine were generally pretty good in stores), this guy would be in the hospital on life support, not in jail.

I have thought about it, too, but only when it was obvious the child was being a spoiled, rotten brat. However, self-restraint prevailed.

I will admit I have whacked my son on his butt when he was at the monster-y age. But, he was usually pretty good.

Not surprising it's in our waaaandurful state! But I must say, I thought it was going to be about RRBecca until I saw the age and sex description! laugh

However, tho...we MAY have to do something about the loan reviewer who keeps insisting on carrying on her personal phone calls right between our offices...I may not be responsible for my actions before it's over with. What right does she have to interrupt us to keep from her interrupting her own co-workers in the other room?!?!?

I don't know why he didn't run. He had to have known it was wrong. He must've snapped and didn't care about what was going to happen.

I wonder if he said, "clean up on aisle 5!" after he did it. Now that would have been funny.

I would never think of slapping a kid who was crying. The parents maybe, but not the kid.

This guy is a moron. I hope he has to spend some time in the slammer (30 days maybe) and pay a big fine. But they'll probably make him do community service at a day care center or something.

He should've used duct tape instead, less physicality and much quieter result too.

Stupid! Look at him ~ if he has that much anger with a child ~ what else is he thinking in that stupid head of his.

He is sitting in jail for awhile. The judge will have to name his bond but at least he made him go to jail for awhile.
