The U.S government has been paying people to have more kids for years, it's called Social Security.
I don't quite understand how sharing of the household chores promotes having more kids. It has made me not want to have more.

The U.S government has been paying people to have more kids for years, it's called Social Security. How does social security incent anyone to have a child? I would actually argue the opposite - I will get S.S. benefits (I know, I know, just pretend...) whether I have kids or not; additionally, I'll pay the same amount in S.S. taxes regardless of whether I have dependents to clothe and feed. Maybe I'm a sucker for trying to bring this to a discussion of the underlying problem the program described is seeking to fix in Japan, but think about the situation there. A birthrate approaching one child per woman means that for every four grandparents, there is one grandchild. Most children will grow up without brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, or cousins. No society in human history has seen this happen. Discuss, coolies. Or just discuss coolies.

I'm not an expert on our countries' social programs, but I believe that someone already receiving Social Security or Welfare, would see an increase in their check when they have a child. I believe they would then qualify for more suppliments as well, like food stamps, child care assistance etc...

I think DS is referring to SSA, a social security welfare program when one is not eligible for disibility under social security.

I think you mean SSI. I don't think SSI benefits take dependents into consideration. When most people talk about social security, I think they are referring to the retirement, survivors, or disability benefits available to people who have paid into the system (with the exception of survivors' benefits, I don't think dependents are considered for those benefits, either). SSI is not paid from FICA contributions.

Spot on as usual J-man, SSI. I think I have shared in the past that I was a beneficiary of this program for a dependent. But it was a very obscure fact situation, and had nothing to do with having more kiddos.

I was wrong, it is not a part of Social Security. I was referring to Public Assistance/Welfare programs. Without doing any research, I seem to recall that the majority of people on welfare/public assistance are children, and therefor having more children will result in more assistance. Not everyone abuses this system obviously, but many do.
So it was a bit of a stretch from the original post, but in a low income area like mine, the Government does in fact pay people to have more children.

Most of us understood what you were getting at, DSchrute.
A couple just felt the need to show off a bit.

I'm sure his post would have been deleted for 'personal attack' or 'other' reasons if JJ put a name.

A couple just felt the need to show off a bit. I was seeking to clarify. If you feel the need to stir [censored], please do it elsewhere. That is all. Thanks.

I commend Japan for their efforts... I feel it is just the jumpstart they need to fight the sinister world domination attempts of the Muslims, and eagerly look forward to the day we as Americans wise up and follow suit in order to protect our race.
Better?
