Mary Beth,

Have you baked using Splenda? I love to bake and thought about mixing sugar and Splenda. Does it taste the same?

Thansk!

Yes, I have baked extensively with Splenda. Never a problem. It tastes just like sugar, but seems lighter in weight. Some experts say to mix two sweeteners to get a synergistic effect. I'm sure sugar and Splenda would mix. When I do the mix thing, I use Splenda and erythritol, or Splenda and a few drops of liquid Stevia.

All over the map.
Cool. I didn't know anyone else on the planet but my husband knew about Stevia. He found it at a Renaissance
Fair of all places, and uses it to bake with since he can't tolerate Splenda.

Thanks Mary Beth. I'll keep that in mind. Will you be in Indianapolis this week? I'm hoping to meet a few people while I'm there.

I have even made the famous Aunt Bill's Brown Candy with it

Wow! I thought that recipe was from my great-grandmother's "Dora Lee Circle" from the 30's and 40's! (no, I don't know what a Dora Lee Circle is - but the cookbook is awesome!). I didn't know it was famous anywhere but with my family!

Don't you just love those old cookbooks? My mother has many from her grandmothers and mother - I tell her to take good care of them because they're part of my inheritance!

My mom even found a microwave recipe for it - sure beats all the beating!

Ok, I'll bite, what is Aunt Bill's Brown Candy? Is it a Southern thing?
