My coffee maker is a Braun. It needs to retire. The coffee is sometimes nice and hot and other times lukewarm. It has to go. Therefore I am looking for recommendations on good coffee makers and ones that I should avoid.....

I really like my Senseo, but it's a "one cup at a time" machine. It makes a cup very quickly, but it's not for everyone.

I really like my Keurig. It too is a one at a time machine.
I LOVE IT.

I think my Bunn coffee maker is starting to hit the skids. I was just going to go buy a Mr. Coffee.

I just bought a Keurig Platinum edition last week. I love it! It is so nice to be able to drink a different strength of coffee then what my hubby drinks. He likes the really bold and dark stuff and I like the medium. Once the water is heated (which only takes 4 mins and stays heated as long as the machine is on) it takes less than a minute to make a cup.

We have some friends that spent about $400 on a coffee maker...I tried explaining that in the end, it is just flavored water...clueless...

I have a Keureg as well and it's awesome. I also have a Bunn and an espresso machine for when I want to make more than one cup of coffee or want to entertain. It just depends on how much you want to spend. My Keurig is top of the line and was over $200.00 dollars and my Bunn was $100.00. I come from a long line of coffee drinkers and I too have been drinking coffee since I was a child.

I like the French press idea, a friend has one and loves hers. I still feel like I have to have a coffee maker for when company comes but am not willing to spend a lot of money for one.

I really "perked up" when I saw this thread at first.

Then something inside me started to "brew"...another dang food thread!

I thought, "Wow, Trees is really being a "drip" bringing up a boring subject like this." However, here I am commenting on coffee, which I don't drink because it really isn't "my cup of tea". I should really "filter" my post replies, but I just can't help but to "espresso" myself.

But I guess that is really the pot calling the coffee black...

Got the Cuisinart® Grind & Brew (around $99). The steam from the basket drifts up into the grinding mechanism and makes things a little gunky. But you just pop out the grinder and run it under water for a few seconds to clean it up. The grinder is pretty loud and scared the dogs first time we used it. Otherwise it has been great.

I love my Gevalia coffeemaker! I had been wanting it for a while after hearing a lot of good things about it. So I signed up for a promo Gevalia offered, if you sign up for their coffee of the month club for 2 months, you get the coffee maker and a carafe free. I can't remember what the cost was now, but I know the promo was a better deal. I think the promo is always offered if you check their site!

Gevalia coffee makers rock! Their coffee - not so much.

I have a Tassimo cup-at-a-time maker. I love it, and you can get Starbucks and Seattle's Best for it.

I got a Cuisinart for Christmas. The only problem is that you can't tell from the outside of the machine how much water has been poured in. It has these little "stair steps" inside and you have to lean over the top of the machine to see them. I'm an average height woman, but I have a hard time doing this. My SO has to use a flashlight because he can't see down inside!
Once you get past that, the coffee comes out great!

French press for the win!

20 bucks and the coffee you make with it is so much better than anything that comes out of a coffee maker. Only drawbacks is the longer time to brew and the grounds that you may sometimes get in your cup.

4thing french press. Got one for Christmas from some good friends and it's changed how coffee tastes.

Get a grinder too- Walmart has a decent black & decker burr grinder. Grind on the coarsest setting for french press.

Steep your beans in the press (water at 201 degrees when you pour, and yes I check the temperature crazy) for 3 minutes, 30 seconds. Plunge, taking your time (I usually try to take 30 seconds plunging).

I have never, ever had coffee this good anywhere. I'm only sad that I don't have enough time to do this on a daily basis.

The only downside of a french press is that all other coffee tastes awful by comparison.

I'll have to look for a french press next time I'm at the mall. Is it a one cup at a time deal?

Mine is advertised as a 4 cup model, but in reality it makes about 2 1/2 cups. They do make bigger ones though.

OH! Forgot one thing- 2 Tablespoons of bean per 6oz of water. Important ratio. So when I make it I use 1/2 cup beans and 3 cups of water, plus a bit for absorption.
