My hubby and his mom both love John Grisham's books. I can't stand them. I'm perfectly happy to read overtly fluffy crapola just to entertain myself. We're talking complete brain-candy here. But Grisham books? I don't know....for some reason the few I've read just annoyed me.

<--- doesn't like anything that involves any sort of courtroom drama and/or legal proceedings. I have actually stopped reading books when they take that route. If I am reading what I think is a murder mystery or thriller and it turns into "wrongly accused man stands trial and must clear his name" or something like that, I lose interest immediately. I couldn't get through Patterson's "4th of July" because of that and I never went back to the "Women's Murder Club" series because of it. Therefore, I will never read a John Grisham novel. LOL If it involves the court of law or any legal proceedings of any kind (custody battles, etc.) - I am out!

I just finished Superfreakonomics. I know I'm late to the party.
I just finished that too. Now I'm reading Physics for Future Presidents. Next after that will be The Baseball Economist.

Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead Have you read "Atlas Shrugged?" Had to read both of these in high school and hated them - would I appreciate them more as an adult?

I am in the middle of Atlas Shrugged. It is very difficult reading, but in the beginning there is an exchange between the female protagonist and an employee about the need to contract with productive entities vs an entity that is not as productive in the interest of "fairness". That made me a fan in the beginning, we'll see how it goes.

Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead Have you read "Atlas Shrugged?" Not yet. Her books seemed to ponderous to me years ago, but changing attitudes (mine and societies) have brought me back for another attempt. I may read that next. Those were both very good!

RE: Grisham - *some* of his stuff is very good (I love "The Firm", for instance.) But a lot of it is formulaic and poorly written - he seems to be in it just for the money a lot of times. And "The Appeal" I threw across the room and into the trash when I finished it. Another 2 hours of my life I want back.

I didn't like Atlas because I think it's poorly written. The charachters are one dimensional and you can see the end from the beginning. But reading it as an illustration of Rand's philosophical ideals, it's interesting.
Confused Banker - I think you'd understand it more as an adult.

I'm trying to slog through "Confederacy of Dunces" - I'm still about 100 pages from the end, and while it is well written, I'm not sure I see the point. Don't know if I'll manage to finish it or not. I keep it in my bag so will probably only finish if I get stuck somewhere waiting for something and it's the only thing handy to read!
I just started "The Help" and like it alot so far.

Shutter Island - had to read the end then go back and read it again before I got into it. Then, it was a good book.

My other half reads everything Terry Pratchett puts out and is a die hard fan. He keeps telling me to read Good Omens so I will probably move that up on my 'to read' list as well. Good Omens is on my list too!

Good Omens is on my list too! I loved Good Omens. I'm currently finishing the last book in the Percy Jackson series after seeing the ad for the movie and deciding I was curious about the books. Interesting storyline, and I hope the movies turn out good. But, unlike the Harry Potter books, which despite being for "young adults" (aka older children) were still good reads for adults, I find this series to be overly light and fluffy and not adult friendly. I highly recommend them for younger children with strong imaginations though.

My 13 YO (today she is a teenager) loved the Percy Jackson series. I took her and 5 of her friends from school to the movie Saturday. She told me that the movie wasn't very much like the book but that she really enjoyed the movie. I enjoyed the movie but haven't read the book. Percy is supposed to be 12 in the books but the guy in the movie was at least 15. Hope they make the other 4 before he turns 30.

Working my way through the Sisterhood series by Fern Michaels, on book number 5 out of 15.
I got the new Stephen King book - can't remember the name right now but something about a town that is placed under a huge dome. That will be my summer reading, that darn book is probably 7 to 8 inches thick!!
