I will be in Chicago May 13 - 15. Can anyone recommend a good steak house or other specialty restaurant? Much obliged for your help!

I saw on the Travel Channel this hot dog place where the counter lady curses and yells at you. It's supposed to be really fun especially b/c you can curse back at her! ha ha

The restaurant in the Hyatt Regency downtown was awesome, Stetson's Chop House.

Nick & Tony's! It's a great Italian restaurant that is right across the channel from the Chicago Sun Times. I remember eating a late dinner outside with some friends, and you have the water next to you, the whole city is lit up around you, you see water taxis passing by... Great atmosphere and GREAT food!

Pizzaria Uno, assuming you like deep dish. Long wait when I have been there but it is a cool place with good food and lots of history.

The hot dog place is Wiener Circle, it's on Clark St downtown. You have to go really late night for the fun part (cause everyone is drunk). Ask for the chocolate shake (haha!)

Morton's is one of the best steak houses. I could give you a couple of them (Lawry's is also really good for prime rib).

Hot Doug's is a really good hot dog place, on the near west side. It's like a 2 hour wait. They have Foi Gras (duck liver) you could get on a hot dog. And they have 'duck fat' fries (fries made in duck fat).

Let me know if you need any other places.

Morton's Steak House is my favorite and their Wacker Dr location is two blocks away from you. Visit mortons.com, I believe, for a menu and pricing. All good suggestions, however I would place Ginos East at the top for pizza.

my favorite thing to do in Chicago is re-enact the Wacker Drive police chase scene from The Blues Brothers!

Ruth's Chris Steak House is my favorite among many superb Chicago steak houses (including Morton's and Stetson's and Charlie Trotter's, as mentioned above).

Welcome to Chicago! I'm completely biased, of course, but you'll find some of the friendliest folks in the world here. smile

I'd recommend Wildfire on West Erie. This place has a early 1950s supper club feel to it - great atmosphere. Signature dishes include Horseradish Crusted Filet Mignon, Macadamia Nut Crusted Halibut, Wildfire Chopped Salad and Cedar Planked Salmon.

My wife LOVES the wildfire chopped salad. You have to like blue cheese if i remember right (i never get it).

You can go to AllenBrothers.com, they are a high-end meat supplier, and supply many of the best steak houses in town (they have the restaurants listed).

Also, make sure to stop at Garrett's popcorn. Best popcorn ever. Get the Chicago Mix - half cheese half caramel.

My last time in the "city" (I love 2 hours out) I had the most amazing steak at Harry Caray's Restaurant. I very much recommend you look into it.

And another for Ruth's Cris. I love that place.

Be advised whatever and whatever, you're going to have to open your wallet wider than most other places. It's pricey eating in Chi-town.

Personally, I like pulling a Rachel Ray and asking someone in the hotel where they'd go. I've found many an excellent restaurant that wasn't on anyone's list by listening to where the locals spend their hard earned cash.

Do you really even need to leave the house/hotel room for this type of experience? laugh

Here are a few of my other favorite Chicago restaurants. Some of them are quite pricey, but fabulous:

Everest (French cuisine) on the 40th floor of the Stock Exchange on LaSalle Street. Their roasted lobster is absolutely amazing.

Spiaggia (Italian) at 980 North Michigan Ave. - never had a bad meal here, and I recommend it to everyone. In my previous career opportunity, when I took a lot of clients to dinner, I was a frequent diner here, and I can't recall anyone ever not loving the place.

Naha (American/fusion) over on Clark Street - delicious!

Japonais (sushi/contemporary Japanese cuisine) - great dining experience and a wide ranging menu

Gino's East (deep dish pizza) on Superior Street - a must for anyone wanting authentic Chicago-style pizza - be hungry to experience this one - it's nothing like your average thin-crust pizza

Billy Goat Tavern - "cheezeborger cheezeborger, no fries, chips! no coke, pepsi!" - definitely recommend the original restaurant, not the newcomer on Navy Pier.

Get down and dirty at any of the Vienna Beef Hot Dog places. Get yourself a good Italian Beef sandwich! I do it every time I visit Chicago!

Also, Harey Carey's place was a lot of fun when I was there last time.

Thanks to all for the good eating tips! As a 50 year Packer fan, I think I'll leave the logo stuff home on this trip.

I will second that, the best pizza I ever had. Need to go to the one that is in the basement, not the fancy free standing one.

Forrest Gumps on the Navy Pier was good too. And have to get some hot almonds.
