How do you control teller spare keys? We have a system where the spare keys are kept in sealed envelopes that are signed by two people whenever a key is put into and and removed from the envelope. In addition to the envelope, two people also must initial a log whenever a key is put in or removed.

As always, any input is greatly appreciated!

Each one of our locations has a lockable key box that is hung on the wall. Takes 2 keys to open. We keep spare teller keys, plus spare vault, door, and any other keys they use in the key box.

We have a dual control box in each branch with limited access. One staff member has top key, one bottom key. Any time the box is opened, both employees who have accessed the box must sign at openeing and closing.

I second Donna Banker, but add that we have a key log which is signed by the recipient everytime a key is checked out. We certify our key inventory and log twice a year.

We use the same process as Donna Banker and BetsyS - a lockable key box that is hung on the wall and takes 2 keys to open; inside is a key log and signed by both officers with keys to the box.
