So my better half and I were in Denver last week and went to a restaurant called 1515 Restaurant. While there was absolutely nothing creative about the name of the place, their menu had some rather creative food combinations on it. For example, this was my appetizer . For those what are unable to see the picture, allow me to explain it. Actually, I'm pretty sure I need to explain it even if you can see the picture. It was a Foie Gras Torchon on top of a brioche french toast, a 5 spice gelato with a chocolate syrup on top, marshmallow cream placed around the place, and, as if that didn't already sound strange enough, cherry pop-rocks. Here's the really crazy thing, it totally all worked together! So, what are some other bizarre food combos that work together?

Peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. Sweet and tart at same time. Smooth and crunchy.
I thought my family was the only one who ever ate such a thing, until the internet came along. Now I know there are quite a few people who enjoy this sandwich.

My used to make a sammich with thick, homemade wheat, peanut butter, lettuce, tomato, onion, ham, dill pickle, mayo, pepper and salt, another slice of homemade wheat. (it has to be layered in that order). Looks and sounds gawdawful....tastes great!!

I went to visit my nephew at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana this past April. There is a locally-famous restaurant called Triple XXX that serves a little something called the "Duane Purvis Cheeseburger" which has peanut butter on it along with lettuce, tomato, and pickle. Yes, peanut butter. Sounds bizarre, but it was kind of a delicious combination, especially alongside the homemade root beer the place is known for. The place has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Chicken fried bacon, chicken fried eggs chicken fried bicuits and gravy. I did not say it was healthy or even recommended. But it is just freaking awesome!

I notice nobody is recommneding "tuna, water cress and bean sprouts". Somehow we all translated unusual to mean unhealthy! Maybe that's good that its unusual for us?

My brother started eating his burgers with peanut butter about a year ago and swears by it. My son now does the same thing. It's actually not that bad, but I don't think I could eat an entire PB burger.
I was going to mention the PB and pickle sandwich...my absolute favorite kind of sandwich! It has to be a specific kind of pickle, though...only Nalley's Baby Dills.

Just once I would love to see a judge on chopped just say, "Well that sux!" Instead of giving a highly intellectual critique.... But that may just be me.

I don't like to mix my sweet & savory either; love pineapple... but hate pineapple on pizza - yuck! Also don't like fruit in a salad!

BD, do you remember Greasy Tony's in New Brunswick? No... I have not even tried the Grease Trucks. I don't need to have a heart attack, but my son loved it while he was in school there. Luckily, he now knows he should not eat them. Thousands of calories for a sandwich!!
