I am not a fan of black eyed peas.

So in order to get over this hurdle, I am wondering if you all have some great black eyed pea recipes that I try out!

It may turn out to be a black eyed pea cook-a-thon kind of weekend! My poor husband...

Dried, fresh, canned, or frozen?

Where I am supposed to be
Do you really think that the Black Eyed Peas do their own cooking? Why would you want to eat what they cook anyway?

Preferably dried, canned or frozen. Not sure if I could get it fresh here.

I currently have a bag of frozen black eyed peas in the freezer right now.

Stealing from Okie...cause it's already out there. wink

Spicy Bean Salsa (aka Cowboy Caviar)

INGREDIENTS:
1 (15 oz) can black-eyed peas
1 (15 oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 oz) can whole kernel corn, drained
3 stalks chopped green onions
½ chopped cucumber
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 (4 oz) can diced jalapeno peppers
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, drained
1/2 cup Lite Spicy Italian-style salad dressing
1/2 teaspoon minced Garlic
Pinch of Chili Pepper
Pinch of Cumin

DIRECTIONS:
1. In a medium bowl, combine black-eyed peas, black beans, corn, onion, green bell pepper, jalapeno peppers and tomatoes. Season with dressing, garlic and spices; mix well. Cover, and refrigerate overnight to blend flavors.

You can really change up the veggies in this. My friend uses black olives and skips the corn.

(Add more Chili Pepper, Garlic & Cumin to taste, remember that tastes get stronger overnite!)

Also, I make a relish to go on top of most any 'field' peas that makes ANY pea delish! I'd have to dig up the recipe tho...

Well - considering ap.de.apl and I are from the same country, I'm pretty sure he does his own cooking now and then.

We love some good home-cooking...

I like mine pretty simple - I simmer them for a while with ham or bacon and about 1/3 cup of wine. Serve with ham, biscuits, and red eye gravy.

I usually just simmer them with a ham hock or some trimmings, butter, salt, and pepper for a couple of hours. We like them over rice. smile

I have a great soup recipe. I always make it for New Year's Day. It's called "Good Luck Soup" but I don't have the recipe here with me. frown

(na na na...)
Goodbye Earl
Those black-eyed peas (na na na...)
They tasted all right to me, Earl
You feelin' weak (na na na...)
Why don't you lay down and sleep, Earl
Ain't it dark (na na na...)
Wrapped up in that tarp, Earl?

Running and riding everywhere ...
The song was my first thought and now it's stuck in my head! At least it goes with the angry chick music I've been listening to this morning.
