We had to let our sweet dog go yesterday so instead of wallowing in my misery, I'm going to brag on how awesome he was.
Everyone loved him. My mom isn't a dog-lover, but she gave him a Christmas gift every year.
My husband always took him roping. He would stand next to the box; follow my husband down the pen when he came out on his horse, but he knew where to stop so he didn't get in the way. And then walk back with my husband when the run was over.
When my husband would warm up his horse. He would stand in the middle of the circle and just watch my husband's horse making circles around him. They were inseperable. It was like watching a boy with his dog. It was heartwarming.

I know how awful it is to lose a furry loved one. We currently have three dogs and two cats - and our old dog, Mandy, isn't in the best of health. I feel your pain.
AND what a wonderful way to celebrate his life.

*W*W*...your post brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful companion!
I'm so attached to my dog that I told my sister I was afraid when the time comes they may have to put me in the ground next to Lily. She is the best dog I've ever had.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My african grey parrot is 20 and the love of my life. I've raised her since she was 11 weeks old. I hope to have another 30 years with her which won't be enough. She's too smart sometimes, (smart as a six year old) and as bad as a puppy (chewing on things). Good thing she's cute!

Condolences.
We have the best cat ever. He's social and friendly to everyone, he never scratches the furniture, he let's us clip his claws, he goes outside on a leash and rids the yard of pests (moles, chippys, etc..), he loves ice cream and pop corn. I could go on. Wife brought home a new kitten this week and he doesn't seem to care, other than he wants some of the cat milk that she is feeding the kitten.

He was the best pet I ever had. He was a really quiet dog. Not easily excitable, but he would "sing" (throaty kind of bark) if you sang Dixie to him. It was hilarious. That was always our party trick when we had company over.

Sorry for your loss.
Pets are the best! We have one dog and two cats. They are always so happy when we walk in the door at night.

Your dog sounds pretty cool, thanks for sharing his memory. Puka is awesome, y'all know. Boeing is sweet. Dumb but sweet. And it's going to be a catastophic event here too when Puka goes...

Animals can really make themselves home in your heart.
I am not a cat person. As part of a breakup, I took custody of Mosley, a 4 year old Manx Cat with an exceptional personality. This cat new how to get people to smile, and knew how to reciprocate affection.
Over the next 8 years, he effectively became my best friend. Unfortunately, over the last 4 years he started having bowel problems. I kept taking him to the vet and trying to come up with solutions.
Earlier in the year things were getting really bad. Then one day, he was fine. He was ten times more affectionate then ever. The whole night he stayed with me, purring and just being close to me. But I noticed something that I mentioned to my wife. 1) Mosley seems extremely affectionate and 2) he seems very warm. But we had not seen him so lively and happy in years.
That night he died. I think he knew that it was his last night. I don't think I will ever find another pet like him again.

Tink, how do you keep 3 dogs, 2 cats AND 3 birds???!!! My gran would love to get a bird (cockatiel or parrot) but we're afraid the cats would make dinner of it. Believe it or not, they all get along. The grays socialize every day in the living room for several hours, including dinner time,as the dogs lounge around on various pieces of furniture. Ditto and Lucy are besties (cat and dog), Katie(dog)would rather tear through the window to attack the UPS or Fed Ex truck than pay attention to the birds, and Molly the shepherd is just the most mellow, tolerant and unconditionally loving dog we've ever had. She wouldn't hurt a fly....

The Cats Diary.
Day 983 of My Captivity
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.
The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bass terds!
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ...
