What was your favorite book to read when you were a child? Or what is the favorite book that you read or have read to your own children / grandchildren?
Have been seriously looking into starting the process of writing a children's book - Not really concerned with being the next JK Rowlings but something to cross off the bucket list ....
As a child I always loved the Amelia Bedelia series

My favorite book when I was little was Where the Wild Things Are. I enjoyed reading Love You Forever to my son, but he also enjoyed Where the Wild Things Are.

That's really a hard question to answer, when you think about it. I think the ones I loved best for my kids had both deceptively simple concepts and great art. Look at Sandra Boynton or Eric Carle for examples. Also Goodnight Gorilla.

Yep, the Eric Carle ones are good, my granddaughter also likes 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom'. Very colorful. She also enjoys the Dr Suess books like 'The B Book' "The First of Octember' not necessarily the ones like the Cat in the Hat.
Good luck!!! Just let your imagination wander!

In these parts, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a spicy chicken plate from Chuy's.....

Patsgirl, My late first wife's life long dream was to write children's books and took a correspondence course on it. She completed one short story for 3 to 5 year olds, which they recommended she send to a publisher. Unfortunately, she passed before it was submitted 12 years ago. It was based on visited to her grandparents house and playing by a pond at their house. My advice is to go for it and just write from you heart and your experiences. Our children and I talked about submitting it, but decided to give it to the grandchildren instead.

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch
I read this book to my son every night when he was little, very simple but touching. He is now 12 and it is still in his room by his choice. It is the one 'baby' book he won't give away.

Trixie Belden!! I have been sitting here wracking my brain trying to come up with that series!! Love them and I still have a few in a box somewhere. Otherwise, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. Can't forget the Little House and the Prairie books...devoured those. But possibly my most favorite thing to read was Archie comic books.

I enjoyed reading all kinds of books to my daughter but some of my favorites were 'If You Give A Moose a Muffin' by Laura Numeroff, 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom' by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault and Dr Suess's 'The Bike Lesson' by Stan and Jan Berenstain. When I was a kid I enjoyed all the books in the series 'All Creatures Great and Small' by James Herriott.

"Little Women" was my all-time favorite book. I read it dozens of times, had the Madame Alexander dolls of Meg and Jo, and was inspired to begin writing myself because of Jo and her passion for writing. I also loved the "Little House on the Prairie" series, Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys books, The Bobbsey Twins books, Encyclopedia Brown, and the Judy Blume books later when I was a bit older.

My favorite book as a very young child was 'The Velveteen Rabbit'. I also read the Nancy Drew series - and pretty much anything I could get my hands on. My son (now 26) loved the Goosebumps series.
