we are suppose to get somewhere from 3 to 8 inches of snow when we get about 8 inches of snow we consider putting on boots and possibly even shoveling

Shoveling? The Peepster? I'd have to see that to believe it.

usually it's just a small swath in front of the garage to get the snowblower going

Y'all might not understand but for the rest of us, my new worry this winter has been hoping I don't blow the breaker when I plug my hairdryer in because the roof heating coils are on the same one as the master bath. Thank goodness we put those on this fall or I'd have six foot long icilces hanging off the roof and possible water seepage damage inside again!!! heaven forbid you plug the dryer into another outlet in the house...of course, you could have hair as big as DQs and therefore an industrial strength 1950s style full floor/chair hair dryer is required, which makes moving it to another plug difficult...

All of our schools are closed and I hear some bank's aren't opening until 11:00 today. They're closed for...........om.................oh...yeah...rain. Actually, we probably narrowly missed a mess...it's rained all night long and had the temperatures dropped sooner, it would have been one slick mess out there this morning. Other than that...I swear there are a bunch of drama queens around this area.

It was about -10, snowy, and dark yesterday morning when I started off on my hour-long commute. The wife and kids were still in bed, as school was cancelled. I was feeling kind of depressed when about half-way into my ride I came up on an Amish guy peddling a rickety old bike up hill in the snow and slop and freezing temperatures. I guess I don't have it so bad.

It is a balmy 3, with wind chill of -13. No school again today. I am glad I don't have to worry about that-my kids are all out of school. More snow coming Thursday and then Saturday too. But the weatherman did say 30 on Saturday. Holy heat wave!!!

Ok, so when I was a kid they did not close the schools for cold ever. It only closed if it was determined that it was not safe for the buses.
The fact that most of the kids walked to school (10 miles up hill both ways in the snow) did not seem to be part of the equations.

Down here...you can see snow, so you know you aren't going anywhere and you just deal with it once a decade or so.
However, it's sleeting now...if all this water freezes on the road, the bigger concern will be icemageddon.

If we got snow down here, all would be good....but we seem to never just get snow.....always ice first.

BBB1 - some kids had to spend the night in their school, also.
