Did anyone see Merrill Hoge's critique of JM last night?

Does he play smart? No!
Does he throw accurately? No!
Does he make good decisions? No!
Is he exciting? Yes!

But being exciting doesn't win in the NFL.

C'mon, people. Even in the Cooler, it ain't nice to say such things about other folks. So the "animal talk" in this post has been redacted and replaced by this smarmy admonishment.

Merrill Hoge is a lot of things. That might be one of them. I wouldn't know. I am not sure if I had heard something like him [ REDACTED HERE, TOO! ] I would remember it. Let alone post it on BOL.

Merril Hoge is a former professional American football player. He played eight seasons at running back for the Steelers and Bears, retiring after the 1994 season. Since 1996 he has been a football analyst for ESPN television

Where I am supposed to be
I am so scared that the Vikings will pick him if he drops to the 8th overall pick. I think he has Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, etc.

I am guessing that JM will be more like Jamarcus Russel.

Ponder will probably be our 3rd QB at best so that is not saying much. It is not Ponder's fault that Vikings management reached to pick him 12th when he should have been a 2nd or 3rd round QB at best.

I don't disagree ... Manziel is probably better than Spielman, too

I'll take 'exciting to watch' over all of that other stuff any day. I watch football to be entertained, and Manziel is entertaining. I'm hoping he goes to Cleveland so that I can see him play my Steelers twice each year. But I don't know how Houston passes on him.

OK
If Houston wants to sell tickets, then yeah, i don't know how they pass on him either. If Houston wants to win games, i can think of better picks (or trades).

i'm fairly certain Houston has no interest in winning games...see that past several seasons as reference...

Houston runs QB's out of their city. JM will be run out for losing. Houston fans want to win.

There are no guarantees. If Houston passes on Manziel and he does well elsewhere, that front office/coach is history.

So did Ryan Leaf-from thebiglead.com

"I thought it would be fun to take a flashback to the most notable, the Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf debate of 1998. On this day, fourteen years ago, Newsday published the results of a poll of 20 GM’s:

The overwhelming consensus: Manning may have the more recognizable name, but Leaf clearly is the preferred quarterback among league executives. Fourteen of the 20 polled said they would draft Leaf over Manning, citing the Washington State quarterback’s stronger arm, better mobility and more promising long-term prospect as a franchise-caliber player.

“More promising long-term prospect as a franchise-caliber player.” That’s right, when faced with looking at a quarterback who would go on to win four NFL MVP awards, versus, well, Ryan Leaf, the majority of GM’s went Leaf."

Getting sporting news from the bleacherreport is akin to watching MSNBC for news.
