I remember that well......of course, i didn't predict his stumble out of the gate, but i thought he had next to no shot to win that race anyway.

Strange thing going to Hockey BB FP BB. there is 15-20 thousand at a game if the team is lucky and it seems packed. With over 100 thousand it seem like a lot of people but they were not all over you like the other sports (I did not compare soccer as what 10 or 20 people in the stands all related to one of the players) That should get happy out of hiding.

The Belmont with a Triple Crown on the line is an awesome thing.....when no Triple Crown's on the line, only hardcore fans like me really care about it.

Unstriking as there will be over 100 thousand at Belmont(the premise of the post) So all you horsey people come down to Elmont NY and see history or just another statistic.

What's the record for attendance Ed...isn't it something like 153,000? Could be in jeopardy.

LARGEST ATTENDANCE A record crowd of 120,139 attended the 2004 Belmont Stakes. Longshot Birdstone won; Smarty Jones finished second by a length, failing to win the Triple Crown.
I thought is was over 150 as well

In addition to racing history, Belmont Park made history in another industry native to the Hempstead Plains—aviation. Some 150,000 people were drawn to the track on Oct. 30, 1910 at the climax of the a Wright Brothers-staged international aerial tournament, which had started eight years earlier. The event came at the beginning of a period (1910, 1911 and 1912) in which racing was outlawed in New York State http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belmont_Park

::hands mani a black-eyed susan:: fixed for the upcoming leg. Um....that leg was 3 weeks ago. This leg would be...a Manhattan? It was a trick...I figured you (If anybody) would catch it... The Belmont's drink is a Belmont Breeze. It replaced the White Carnation. (whatever either of those are)

And do not claim that Belmont is in NYC as it in Nassau County. It is a sore spot with the locals

There's a lot of talk about how rare Triple Crown winners are in this country (not since 1978), but it's been an even longer drought in England (1970, Njinsky).

Every year it seems I leave for the ABA NRCC on the day of the Belmont. Of cource, out of JFK, which means I have to drive (crawl)past Belmont Racetrack. Usually I leave early enough to miss the worst traffic and get to where I'm going in time to actually watch the race. Not this year though, I am leaving later (around 3) and will probably be at baggage claim while the race is going on. This is because there is a shot at the Triple Crown (and I get to miss it).
