.0199 was the cheapest I ever filled up with in college during the early 1970s. The station was named "Hull", and their slogan was "fill up for the hull of it".

We have (or at least had for one day) the cheapest gas in the country! Today we are at 2.58 a gallon. Filled up my tank yesterday for under $40.00....haven't done that in a long time.

Finally! $2.94. Has anyone else considered.....it's truly sad that I am this excited to see gas as "cheap" as $2.94 per gallon.

^^ I often wonder if gas companies don't engage in a price fixing scheme to steadily raise the price until we start to balk then they lower slightly and we relax. Now we're talking about how great it is that gas is < $3/gallon. Next year we'll be grateful for it to be below $4 and so on.

Whether we balk or not is actually a moot point. Gas is necessary (at least right now) for the use of automobiles. Regardless of the prices, we either pay for the gas and drive, or refuse to pay and walk/ride bicycle. That may be an option for some city-folk, but not so much for a country feller like me. I have a 40 minunte drive one way to work...walking or taking a bicycle isn't a realistic option for me. Nor do I have the option of mass public transit.

Right there with ya Burk. The price doesn't stop me from driving my 40 min each way daily commute nor my 40 mi one-way commute to the grocery store on Saturdays. It's more of a negative mindset than actually changing my habits when the price goes up.

Public transport costs more and I need a car to get to it.

good gravy - 40 miles to the grocery? how the heck do you buy ice cream? or do you just eat it while shopping and pay for an empty container when checking out?
