But a jacket is retired for men at all times, and ties after 4:00 PM

What about Pants or is that required after 6:00?

Way, way south.
I've been to Commander's Palace, Arnaud's, and Galatoire's but I'll have to try The Palace Café next time I'm in town.

I went to Arnaud's in December and was very disappointed. The food was mediocre and the service was just the same.

Soaring over Georgia
Last time we were there we had a group that ate at a restaurant a little off the beaten tourist path - The Praline Connection - great southern cooking. It's at the corner of Frenchmen St. and Chartres St. It's in the Frenchmen Street musical district with lots of authentic jazz clubs around - away from the boozy, touristy Bourbon Street area.

If you do go to Commander's Palace, which is in the Garden District rather than the French Quarter, try their Bread Pudding Souffle with Whiskey Cream Sauce. Amazing.
