We have received a request from a customer to open an account however they only have a first name. Their Permanent Resident Card has under "Given Name" "NO NAME GIVEN". Their social security card reads, "NO NAME GIVEN" on the top line with their first name listed just under it.

I have never run across this before. Any feedback is appreciated.

You could start by googling their country of origin to see if last names are not commonly done. And then I would be tempted to call SS and verify. And then you will have to figure out how your system will accommodate that.

Unless it's Iman, I think you should have a good laugh and go on to what's next...

I would input No Name Given as in: John No Name Given

If you can access the private forums, here is an old thread that speaks to this topic and has some useful insights.

We actually had that once, but it's been so long I honestly can't remember the situation in its entirety. I think for us, our customer maybe had a surname but no first name and No Name Given was put on his ID and SS (ITIN) card as No Name Given [Surname].

We turned away the customer and did not add them as a signer to the account being opened.
