Would have just rather have seen them stay just plain "Washington" if that was the best name they could come up with

"Sentinels" would have been good. I enjoyed "The Replacements"
I also would have like Red Hogs or Red Wolves.

I still fail to truly grasp the original controversy. But agree - Commanders is just bad.

there are so many other names in pro and college sports that someone could make an issue of, don't understand the cancel culture for this one and others getting a pass.

Well, i think there's quite a bit of difference between "Redskins" and "Indians" or "Seminoles" or "Braves".
Having said that, it really didn't matter to me whether Washington kept their original name or not....but i do see a difference in their name versus some of the other native american inspired names.

They should have gone with "harassers" as a nod to the front office,

As a lifelong fan who went to the games with my dad in the glory days of Sonny, Art Monk, Riggo, and the like I actually like the Commanders. Honestly, though, after a while I got used to Washington Football Team. I don't mind that they changed the Redskins name - even when I was young I didn't understand why the "cheerleaders" trotted out onto the field in what I thought of as Indian Princess gear (yep, Indian Princesses - definitely showing my age and the area of the country where I grew up. Somehow it just didn't seem right.

Maybe I am missing something but what is wrong with Indian Princesses?

ha! Nothing, Indian Princesses was a father-daughter group for dads with elementary school girls. The fact that the cheerleaders looked like they were wearing something like our Indian Princesses ceremony outfits just seemed wrong. Add to that the fact that the cheerleaders all wore a black wig that was two braids. I so loved going to the games but in my young mind, the cheerleaders were a letdown. It almost seemed like they were wearing a Halloween costume and it was very restrictive so actual cheering wasn't really possible. The band, on the other hand, was amazing! Honestly, I was there for the game and that really reinforced that thinking!

Darrell Green, Dave Butz, Mel Kaufman, the Hogs . . . those were the days. And the thing that made the rest possible (as compared with now): Jack Kent Cooke as owner.

Yes, Dan Snyder will never be a fraction of the man/person/owner that Jack Kent Cooke was.

When I worked for a bank in the DC area (back in those days), there were two casual days every year: the Fridays before the Skins played Dallas. Those two days, employees could wear team gear to work.

Should have just called them the Politicians..... Yeeeeah. No. If they did that, the players would only be able to see one side of the field.
