I really want a butterfly and have drawn it out myself, but I am afraid that the artist couldn't make it look the way I want. I chose the trinity for it's meaning and my heritage.

State of confusion
I got a red heart with a blue rose growing through it when I was 18, on my bikini line.

When I was 19 I got a bunny rabbit on my chest (high enough to show only that, but low enough to hide.)

When I was pregnant at the age of 26....they both grew quite a bit...then they shrunk quite a bit after the baby....not quite the same artistic effect after all that....

My first tatoo was a small butterfly on my right shoulder, done by my brother-in-law. Didn't really hurt while he was doing it, a bit of an irritation more than anything. Healed well, he is good!!! My oldest son told me I'd want more and I said "no way" -- - well I now have 3!!! When I finished my breast cancer treatment, he gave me a somewhat larger one on the inside of my left ankle, wanted to be able to see it. Then last year my brother-in-law did a pink breast cancer ribbon in a spot that only my hubbie and I can see . The ankle was more painful than the first and the 3rd was much more "uncomfortable" than the 1st and 2nd. I use to say that if the breast cancer came back, they were both gone and Brian would put butterflies across my chest - after the third one I would still do that but with fewer butterflies

I have a small blue and green (to symbolize the balance of earth and water) yin yang on my shoulder. Then I have a peace sign of daisies on my thigh. Hey, I was conceived in the summer of love ... I'm one step away from a hippie.

Both of my tatoos are on my lower back - both of them black. My first one is on my right side and is the Chinease symbol for Honest. My second one is on my left side and is the Chinease symbol for Dream.

I would love to get a third...however my husband feels I have enough ink.

Dip, Jenna Jameson has something similar with the words heart breaker thrown in there...hehe

My first was on my foot. Chinese lettering on the side of it and curving upwards. To this day I haven't told anybody what it means.

My advice would be is know what you want and take some art work with you. That will help your tattoo artist vision what you are looking for.

I got my first one 2 yrs ago for my birthday. It's a design across the lower part of my back and it's in color, blue, black and white. It hurt like HE!! but I made it through. He said because there was very little muscle & fat covering the spine it's bascially vibrating off the bone. Yeah- it hurt. The only thing about it, I sometimes forget about because I can't see it easily. When I got the tattoo everyone in my family was shocked (I would be voted least likely to get a tattoo out of the 3 kids my mom had ;))

I got another one in April of this year. It's a black cross with the years 03 & 06 on the sides of it on my hip area. It means a lot to me. My sister in law died in a car accident in 03 and my brother (her husband) died of cancer this year. I had the tattoo done on their anniversary so its my way of honoring their memory. It hurt a lot too- it was just awkward and it was hard to keep the skin tight.

I don't think I'll get another but you never know!

I guess I'm just old school and I'm only in my middle 40's. I just don't want to permanently place anything on my body that I can't have removed - easily. I certainly don't look down on people who have them (at least I hope I don't - my husband has one (on his calf) and my step-daughter has at least 3 (that we know of, but she'll only tell us where 2 of them are), they're just not for me. My body has changed so much over the last 20 years I can't imagine what one would look like now and I wouldn't want it to show when I'm wearing a skirt or shorts.

I got one of a lizard with spots on my right shoulder about 5 years ago. I sometimes forget that it is there. It's black, and smaller then a baseball. It did kind of hurt when I got it, but like someone else said, it never hurt TOO much and he stopped right about the time I was going to get fed up. It was kinda cool to feel my bones vibrate down to my elbow.

My sister has one on her back of an angel, but the angel's face is my nephew. She brought in a picture, and the guy was able to replicate it on her. It really looks like him too.

Ahh, I remember my first (and only) Tattoo fondly.

He was a fine little midget.

Eventually, Mr. Rourke asked for him back.
