Depends on my mood
For all the KY posters....looking for some help.

We are looking at coming to KY for spring break...last week in March. Interested in the Laurel, KY area...specifically Daniel Boone National Forest and surrounding areas and activities. Can anyone give me any insight to the area...what's available in terms of accomodations and activites?

Thanks!

I live in KY and I love going to Daniel Boone Nat'l Forest. You should check out Cumberland Falls...it really is beautiful. Too bad you're not going in the summer because swimming at Cave Run Lake and Laurel lake are lots of fun.

I'm sure you have already searched all possible areas but i go to this website http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/boone/index.shtml for info!

Second the vote for Cumberland Falls. Hope for a full moon with clear skies and you'll see a moonbow over the Falls. Beautiful hiking all around.

Not sure where you are from, but if you have never been, Mammoth Cave is one of the seven (?) wonders of the world, but it is more in central KY off of I-65. Weather won't matter there!

We're traveling from Indiana. We have been looking at Cumberland Falls area and actually thinking about staying at the Park. We also thought about the Mammoth Cave but it looks like it might be about a 2 1/2 hr. drive one way....would it be worth the drive??

Where is the Natural Bridge located.

What attracted us originally to the area was the 4-wheeling trails but I'm having trouble getting any info from anyone regarding rules on a rider under 16. So we thought that it looked like there was alot of other things to do and a beautiful area we'd go anyway. We love the outdoors....hiking, fishing, canoeing, golfing, etc. and are partial to staying in a cabin rather than a hotel.

Also, someone mentioned a horse park...is there horse back riding available there?

Here is a site that is a good starting point for things to do in this area.

http://www.tourseky.com/

They would be a good group to ask about 4-wheeling, as well as any other info you might need about the area. Hope you enjoy it when you come!

We camped at the Cumberland Falls state park and really enjoyed it. I'll bet you could call the park rangers office and they could share the rules of the road regarding 4 wheeling.
I think one of the seven wonders of the world would be worth the drive.
It's a beautiful state. Have a wonderful vacation.

Thanks so much for the links and input everyone! They have been very helpful and I think we are going to stay at Cumberland Falls Park in a cabin. Now that things are starting to take shape...I can't wait!!

I'm open to some more suggestions of the best things to see and do as it seems there is so much to fit into one weeks time.
