Brother is back in the hospital. Second blood clot in his lung in a month. Extremely healthy, 32 years old. Tests come up negative for all clotting factors, doctors dont know whats causing it. THey want to put a filter in his leg, that will stay there for the rest of his life. It could become dislodged and go to his heart(kill him) - but only extremely rare case(having 2 blood clots in 1 month while testing negative for all clotting factors is extremely rare.... )
Doctors also say that if the filter does its job he will need to get it "cleaned" on a fairly regular basis. He will also need to inject himself with medicine in the stomach for the rest of his life(at a cost of about 12,000 dollars a year)... and this is all on a guess becuase they dont know whats wrong with him. Of course both of those treatments would ensure he is still living, exceot in the case of the filter becoming dislodged) so that is good. I spent last night at the hospital because i couldnt get myself to leave. He has 2 sons one is 3 and the other is a year and a half. the three year old cries every time he finds out that "daddy isnt sleeping at home tonight"

It is just frustrating and hard to watch his new family go through this and for both our families(ours and his wife's) to struggle with this when they are supposed to be enjoying the time with the first grandchildren.

I know that God knows whats going on and I trust in Him. I would just appreciate some prayuers and good thoughts for him, his sons, and his wife. [censored], i could use some too...

I just needed to get that out of my head, so I appreciate the venue to do it. And I appreciate your prayers.

I have been at the hospital till about 1 am with my brother the last two nights. We have been doing crossword puzzles and hitting on the nurses and doctors

They still do not know what is causing the clots or where they are coming from... but they have exhausted every test(twice). They are going to perform a procedure on friday that will put a filter in his leg and that should help. Now that I understand how the filter will function I feel a lot better about the situation. It is still scary.

Oh yeah, the other nigh while I was there... the person in the room two doors down from my brother died while I was there it was probably the eeriest thing I have ever experienced...

Ask the doctors if they have tested your brother for anti-thrombin 3 deficiency and protein C deficiency. Both of these genetic conditions are among a host off genetic conditions that can cause blood clots for no apparent reason in a perfectly healthy person, and they can remain dormant for many years, sometimes only appearing after some form of trauma.

Two of my family members had these conditions.

I do hope your brother comes through this like a champ, and he and your family are being lifted in prayer. Keep faith and hope going!
