I'm hoping to start the latest book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series tonight. I started it at lunch. It was really, really hard to come back to work. I didn't really have time but I read a few pages of the prologue anyway. I was 15 minutes late coming back to work from lunch but it was worth it!

Finished "Girl on Fire" and plan to start "Mockingjay" sometime soon. Still reading "Game of Thrones."

I am not a big reader but decided to grab a book for the plane. I picked up Water for Elephants and love it! I just saw previews for the movie and am looking forward to seeing it too.

Gold: Being the Marvelous History of General John Augustus Sutter by Blaise Cendrars
embellishes the truth a lot, but even the truth (Wikileaks summary of Sutter bio) is much wilder than I expected from that bit of US history...a quick read.

When I picked my son up last night he was so excited and said "Dad you have to take me to Wal-Mart, I want to buy a book" I nearly fainted because he has never shown an interest in reading. He got a book from the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series and loves it. It is simple and crude - just the thing to get an 8 year old to start reading. Lol.

My son has loved the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I can't say I like him reading them all that well, but at least he is reading. He is 7.

Then he found the Captain Underpants series--written like it's done by 2 fourth grade boys who like lots of bathroom humor. Again whatever it takes for them to take a interest in reading. He hated reading and now I find him picking up a book and reading without being told. Now his 6 yr sister is reading (ok mom reads them) the series too.

Just finished "The Confession" by John Grisham. I really like Grisham's first books, but it seems like he put no effort at all into this one. The characters are cardboard cut-outs, the plot is predicatable, and the book sputters to a "I need to hurry up and get this to the publisher" ending. Really an amateurish novel.

Bite Me! - Christopher Moore
I'm Mc-Lovin It. His stuff is on my TBR list, but I refuse to pay Trade Paper prices for authors I'm not positive I like. I keep waiting to catch something on sale either in the bookstore or on Kindle.

I don't blame you. I have a loaner copy so it's a free read. Beware though, the first book I read of his was Fluke and I didn't care for it. Bite me is much better. IMO

Now, if the good folks at Amazon would just get off their keysters and get a Kindle lending-library going (I'm thinking a subscription queue service a'la Netflix), that would be lovely. ETA: a friend of mine has read a few of his books and told me to start with either Dirty Jobs or You Suck.

I totally agree with you! I gave up reading him somewhere along about The Testament. I've tried one or two since then ("The Appeal"- HORRIBLE) and he has just gotten so 'phone it in'. Which is too bad, because I LOVED his original stuff like "The Firm" and "Pelican Brief" and the one about the death penalty. Oh and if you haven't tried David Baldacci yet, you should - he's a lot like good Grisham. Earlier books more so than the last couple of years, but definitely worth a read.

The Money Dragon by Pam Chun - excellent story of one huge, successful Chinese family in early, pre-state Hawaii.

Question: How do you give the gift of a book via Kindle? There's a book that my brother should really have, and he uses a kindle - anything the equivilent of wrapping it up and making a presentation of it?

When you click on a book in the Kindle section you have the option to purchase or give as a gift (you'd need an Amazon account set up so you can pay for it). You'll need to enter your brother's email address (that goes with his Kindle account). No wrappiing it up but you can include a message for him.

Or you could get him a gift certificate from Amazon and let him purchase it himself!

Just finished Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I didn't like the subject matter of part of the book, and it seems it carries over into the next book also. Being in banking, the ending kind of freaked me out.
