Read Fade Away and Deal Breaker in the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coben while on vacation last week. Loved them both. On to book #4!

Without going back and looking, has anyone mentioned reading The Help? Liked the book up until the last page which left me asking "and....????" Daughter thinks it was left open for a sequel. Was blown away by the realization that this happened during my lifetime! My mom's reading it now and is having a hard time believing it's based on fact.

I read "The Help" also. I enjoyed it, but I too was wanting more at the end. There is a movie coming out based on the book.

I loved listening to the Girl with the Dragon tattoo. I have a Lee Child in the cd player in the car now. I had Spell of the Highlander in the car but it was a little too much to listen to if the kids got in, so I took it out and listened to it while cleaning house the other day.

I really enjoyed that book. I was a big Twilight Fan so I wanted to read her other book. Totally different from Twilight in a good way. I've heard that it may be made into a movie.

Good, I am recovering from a poor book choice, Land of my Heart. It was terribly sad and I need something really good. Yeah, I was just looking it up and they are making it a movie. Is there a sequel?

It was an interesting take on Heinlein's "The Puppet Masters".

I was a huge fan of the first 3 Twilights, but hated The Host and Breaking Dawn. I found them both to be big let downs.

Running and riding everywhere ...
I liked the second half of The Host...the first half was painful. It was not as big of a letdown to me as Breaking Dawn. If Becca hadnt guilted me into it, I'm not sure I would have finished.

Did you all see that Border's is closing/liquidating?

Dead-tree books are slowly going away. Even with my Kindle, I still love dead-tree books. It's sad.

Ok, so the last couple days I spent reading something very easy to read, yet one of the funniest things I have ever read. Normally I try not to laugh and point out other peoples mistakes, but the fact that a professor of history took the time to collect "Mangled moments of Western Civilization from Term Papers & Blue Book Exams" was brilliant. The book is called "Non Campus Mentis" and everyone should read it.

Such wonderful things as "The pyramids were large square triangles built in the desert. O'Cyrus, a god who lived in a piramid, would give you the afterlife if your sole was on straight." "Teddy "J.R." Roseaveld spoke softly, threatened with his big stick, and built the Panema Canal through Mexico. From this the events moved to an ensurpation by Poncho Vidalia" and, my favorite, "The Catholic church sold indulgences as a form of remission control. Luthar was into reorientation mutation. AN angry Martin Luther nailed ninety-five theocrats to a church door. The Pope's response was to declare Luther hereditary."

Seriously, when you remember that all these came from COLLEGE STUDENTS it is even funnier to read!

My daughter teaches history at a local community college. This sounds like some of the stories she tells. Sometimes I just shake my head and wonder how some of these kids were ever graduated from high school.

BTW, I just downloaded The Sword of the Lord: The Roots of Fundamentalism in an American Family by Andrew Himes. In the book, the author traces the history of Christian fundamentalism in the United States through his own fundamentalist family.

There is some interesting things in here that I did not know. It's funny how quickly folks lose track of the way their particular religion has developed and evolved. I remember when I was a "new" Christian back in the '70s and I was told the Jesus Freak revival I was on the tail end of was a movement to get back to the way things were in the days when Jesus walked on the earth. Boy, was that wrong.
