Driving in DC is a veritable nightmare, they shouls move the tourist stuff to another place. I can imagine, when touring I don't drive (at least not in DC).

"In San Diego it's fun to ask the surfers when i should come back to have warmer water"
Love that one, Happy! I'm so accustomed to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, that the Atlantic and Pacific are just too cold.
My Kid Wonder loves New Orleans and I'll probably take her there for her Birthday next year - Maybe that will coincide with Mardi Gras - have to check.

I agree with the Nebraska sentiments. Have only driven through there and got a warning ticket for driving 58 in a 55. Too many police here.

I remember as a kid, my parents taking my little sister and I to the pacific for the first time. We had seen all the surfing movies and couldnt wait to run into the water.......and right back out!! Holy Moly!! That water was freezing! I prefer the Carribean. Sugar sand beaches. Clear, warm water. Rum. Pirates.....

Last time I went to New Orleans, I asked a police officer how to get to Bourbon Street and he said "Just follow the stinch" must have been quite some time ago, we have made great strides in keeping the quarter much cleaner (except during mardi gras, only so much we can do). They pressure wash the streets twice a week now, and use a scented water/cleaner combination that breaks down much of the smell-generating bacteria.

I think it depends on what you are used to. I grew up and still live in Queens, NY (a part of NYC) so Boston, Chicago, DC, etc are all good to me. So I am not happy in small towns, I really never want to ever go back to Norman, OK. I had to go to Lincoln, NE many times and truthfully it was (sort of) nice, but I couldn't see myself living there. As far as big cities are concerned I really didn't care for Nashville at all, and was very disappointed with Denver. I don't know what I expected, but it definatelly wasn't that.

Way, way south.

I am not a fan of Denver either. The area around is very nice (mountains), but downtown Denver just seemed more seedy than I expected.
I like visiting big cities, but would never want to live in one. I guess I'm more of a suburbs/small town kind of person.

It is a tough call between Chicago and Madison WI for poorest layout for roads and streets. It is like to designed it that way to create traffic jams rather than minimize them. Having spent half my life in each city, I can tell you Chicago is by far the worst. Madison is built around three lakes and once you understand that, the traffic patterns make sense. Besides, there's been a lot of redirection of the roadways here in the last couple years. By this time next year, it will be significantly different especially on the west side of town. I don't like Chicago or NYC or LA. They're three of a kind in my book.

NYC is not that bad unless you have to drive, walk or use mass transit.

Amarillo, TX. Creepy married guy stalked my friend and me at a nearby campground. Walked into a store and had to listen to the most biggotted, derogatory conversation I've ever heard--and it was between the store owner and a couple cops. The whole visit left me feeling very grossed out and unsafe.

I hate hate hate L.A.
My plane leaves in 9 hours. :sniffle: And I somehow managed to rent a car for the wrong day. I'd just take a taxi but I think the idea of riding with the taxi drive scares me more than the L.A. traffic!

The only parts of L.A. that are bad are the ones with the traffic and the ones with the bums.
So pretty much agree why most do not like any of it.
