My dad has been in pretty bad pain for nearly 2 years. Part of it is a recurring prostate infection, which he had surgery for a year ago and is still not better. He also has diabetes and as a result now has neuropathy (sp?). To top it off, he is dealing with severe back pain that the docs are saying is mostly arthritis. When I spoke to him this morning, he shared his fear that something worse might be going on, like cancer. I couldn't help but start to cry when he said that. I'm so scared for him......he's always been there for me every single time I needed him. I pray to God that it's not that and that he gets some relief from the pain soon.

{{HUGS}} Bowling Queen - and I totally understand. Having issues with my dad right now, too. Urge him to follow up with this. It may not be as bad as he thinks.

Sending good thoughts your way. I know that no matter what anyone says, it's almost impossible not to worry about the unknown, but as someone who was diagnosed with Stage IIIc cancer at 40, I can tell you, worrying about the unknown will not change anything, it will only cause undue stress on you and your family. Hopefully he can get some answers and some relief.
Has he tried Gabapentin or Lyrica for the neuropothy? I have pretty bad neuropothy from chemotherapy and Gabapentin helps.

Has he tried Gabapentin or Lyrica for the neuropothy? I have pretty bad neuropothy from chemotherapy and Gabapentin helps. I will ask him. I seem to recall him mentioning Lyrica, at one time. Thank you for the suggestion. I just hope his doctor isn't dragging his feet. I used to go to the same family doctor and I always felt that for all of the time I sat waiting to see him, he'd spend like 5 mins with me and send me out the door with whatever meds and that was it. My dad said that he'd wait it out one more month. He has some more blood work being done in 3 weeks and a visit the following week. He's 70 years old and was pretty active before all of this started, playing golf several times a week, teaching private music lessons 4 days a week, taking driving trips in his classic Olds and now he can barely leave the house. He's also lost so much weight, I don't know if he's even 140 lbs. It just makes me so sad. Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers. It really means a lot.

ItNeverEnds.....he took Gabapentin a while back and started experiencing double-vision attacks. Initially, they thought it was related to blood-pressure, but after he stopped taking that, the double-vision attacks stopped. He has been on Lyrica for about 2 months now. I just spoke to him and he sounds better than he did this morning.

He had a lidocain (sp?) injection last week that did nothing to relieve his back pain. His pathologist allowed him to go back on an old medication for his prostate, since the one he's been on of recent wasn't helping. He's having a CT scan on his pelvic area in the near future to find out what's causing the prostate issues. He was told it could be calcium deposits of some sort.

Well, I was pretty much in tears yesterday after talking to my dad. He wasn't up to doing anything for Father's Day, nor was he up to having company. He's just miserable and in constant pain. His doc put him on an anti-anxiety med last week and he feels worse than he did before he started taking it. He also has almost no appetite, so he's losing weight again. He can't afford to lose anymore. It's so frustrating to see him go through this and there's not much we can do for him.

anti-anxiety
Find out the name of them and google for side effects (and haves someone keep a close eye for them as the Drs. will not) some of the side effects are worse than the issue they are trying to help. It can take a month for the side effects to kick in.
