Well, we had to send the new greyhound back. Our basenji was getting nastier and nastier toward her and she was miserable - well, we all were. Brandy was so excited to see her former family that it made the decision easy. It was best for her.
To update on Attitude. Saturday was a good day, but Sunday was horrible. He developed a large knot just above his left hind leg. We thought it was a muscle in a knot. He wouldn't eat anything, and just paced and panted. He was in excruciating pain. We dropped him back off at the vet this morning. Turns out this is totally unrelated to the back problem. It's a spider bite. They have drained it and flushed it out and are keeping him tonight. This evening they will do it again and hopefully he'll be better tomorrow. If not, they will have to put him out for a little bit and either really clean it out or put a drain tube in. The vet said this could take 2 weeks to recover from.
Whew!

Oh Skittles, poor Attitude has been thru enough for now. Here's hoping all is well very soon!!
I'm sorry you had to take the newest dog back, it's sad when it doesn't work out. We had to do that once, dog liked my oldest son and me but not my hubby, our youngest son or the cats!! Still, hard to take her back.
Warm thoughts coming your way.

Thanks guys. This was a very rough weekend. I was getting up 3-4 times a night to let Attitude outside and it was tough to see Brandy go, but it was best for all involved. I'm still concerned about the 'Tude, but hope that since we have a diagnosis that he will improve. I'm planning on visiting him in the doggy hospital on my way home from work. I just hope he's resting.

Oh geez Skittles, you've had a time of it with your critters lately. Poor kids....at least they know what to do for Attitude.

I talked to the vet tech this morning. Attitude is MUCH improved. He's now eating everything they put in front of him and his fever and diarrhea are gone. It will be at least tomorrow before we get him and we miss him desperately. They are still keeping the wound open and it's draining and messy, but HURRAH - our baby is improving.
Thanks to everyone for your prayers and well wishes.

I get to pick up my 'baby' this afternoon. We have really missed him and can't wait to get him home.
Thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement. This has been a tough couple of weeks.

Yes, the 'Tude is home now. Thin (down to 80 pounds from 98), but ravenous. He even went for our 'walk' last night. There is no way we could have taken the other two and not him. He gets so excited when the leash comes out.
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. They are much appreciated.
