Prayers for my Mom

My Mom has been doctoring for severe pain in her right shoulder for several weeks now. She has been taking physical therapy and a cortisone shot with little relief. She is going for an MRI in a couple of weeks and may need to have rotator cuff surgery. I feel so bad for her, she has been active and healthy for 75 years and now has to "take it easy" and she is not used to it. I realize that her condition is not as serious as many who have asked for prayers here, but if you would please take a moment to pray for her emotional and physical recovery I would appreciate it.

I have been battling a rotator curr injury for years, so I know how painful and and uncomfortable she is. Surgery is the last resort, so hopefully the physical therapy will help her.
One thing I have learned is to be really proactive with the therapists and ask lots of questions. Can she do anything at home? Are they giving her any type of untrasound therapy? What about heat or ice? If she really works on the therapy she might be able to avoid surgery.

They are using ultrasound in the therapy. She has had different bouts of this in the past, but not to this extent. She has the most pain when sitting - especially to eat - and when riding in the car. The condition has also caused weakness in that arm and hand that makes everyday tasks difficult.
She really likes her doctor and seems to have confidence in him. I am just hoping that if she has the surgery that she will take the time to heal and let my father and I help her.
I know how hard this is for her, she has always been the care giver (she cared for my brother for years until he passed away) and always there to help us out, now that she is the one who needs help she is reluctant to accept it.

Ultrasound therapy is great. It doesn't feel like much during the treatments, but it really helps. Depending on what they find with the MRI, they will either have her use it more or just stop using it at all.
Feel free to PM me if I can help with my past experiences. I had a rotator cuff tear years ago, which resulted in calcification of the tendons in my shoulder. I've gone through the whole thing, including several physical therapy treatments and consultations with orthopedic surgeons.

She has good days and bad, they really won't know any more until the MRI in a couple of weeks. If you can imagine having sharp pain in your shoulder, and not being able to find a comfortable position to sit, stand, or lie down - that is is what she is dealing with on her bad days. On her good days she is dealing with weakness in that arm and fatigue from not being comfortable enough to sleep.

Several years ago, I had real trouble in managing my RA and found that wearing a sling really helped the pain in my shoulder joint--especially following a cortisone shot. I had asked the doctor if if might help and he said no, but I tried it anyway and found it really provided some relief. Anything is worth a try when it feels like someone is trying to rip your arm off!
Praying your mom gets some relief soon. Hope it helps her some to know that she is in the thoughts and prayers of so many.

Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes for my Mom. She is actually feeling good, but still has some weakness in her arm.
Her MRI is scheduled for next Tuesday and they will make further decisions based on that. Unfortunately, my Dad has been called for jury duty in Federal Court about an hour and a half from here the week after next. Mom asked my sister if she could take her to any appointments while Dad is away. Now my sister is ticked at me because she thinks Mom asked me and I told her no (yeah right!). I have a ton of vacation time to use between now and the end of the year and my sisters know this. I called and told Mom yesterday that I am more than happy to take her to any appointments. Hopefully my sister will get over it.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers for my Mom. I just talked with her and she does not have a rotator cuff tear, just bone spurs. The MRI confirmed it. She can have the spurs removed through laproscope in an outpatient procedure.
Again, thanks all for the prayers - the power of prayer is stronger than anyone knows.
