When a customer dies who is receiving a social security check in the middle of the month, how do you determine if the deposit needs to be returned?

We have a customer that has a representative payee on his account and has his SSI direct deposited. The rep payee has died. The customer has a new payee appointed to his funds through Social Security and has brought the paperwork to us where he has made the change. We are not changing ownership of the account just changing payee names. Would you close the account out or have the new payee sign a name change form or how would you handle this?

In Florida, when a minor's account is opened, is the account reported under the minor's social security number or the adult's? This is not a FUTMA account, only a minor's savings account.

I have a court document directing us to open a personal and estate conservatorship account in the name of Sally Smith. Sally is alive, has a Social Security number, but is incapacitated. Should two accounts be opened, one for Sally Smith and one for estate of Sally Smith?

Can the bank place a hold on the anticipated amount of a future social security deposit after a joint owner of a DDA passes away? They were entitled to the previous months deposit, but will not be entitled to future deposits.

We qualify loan applicants based on gross income. Our credit officer says that tax free income from SSI or VA Disability is the gross income and shouldn't be grossed up. I say the income is net and should be. Who's right? If we don't gross tax SSI up, are we discriminating?
